The miles are getting up there!
I was just looking at our training and according to my "running math" we have to go 14 1/2 miles at a 10 minute mile or 145 minutes this week. Serious! Think how great our legs will look when we are done with this :)
I LOVE RUNNING!

First Solo Run
Well, I had to log some more miles this week so I was forced to do a solo run tonight. It was a rough and lonely 4 miles but I did it. I wanted to give up a few times, but thanks to Justin Timberlake, Slipknot, and Kesha I kept on running. I was hoping for rain as I forgot to put on chapstick and pop in a piece of gum, I was running a little dry to say the least, but I pushed through and even ended with a reasonable pace. Oh, and I found a penny by the round-up grounds. YAY!

6 miles down and 2 pennies richer!
Today was the first time I have ever run over over 5 miles (and I only did that once). It was a good cool morning and we beat the rain. I felt so good that I could have kept going, but was glad to be done. I gained a new confidence in my running abilities and am ready for some more miles. I know that I can do it and that feels great. It also helps that Jaime and I found 2 pennies. Well she found them, but I had to bend down to get them for her! haha! Fawn also joined us at the hospital and finished with us. Glad to see her back!

JUST SWIMMING IN THE RAIN....
Today was an open water swim day for our tri training. This has been the WETTEST spring we have ever had to train in. As the day grew on and the rain got steadier we knew there was going to be NO OTHER OPTION but to swim in the rain. So...we headed out the the reservior with wetsuits in hand and shimmied our way into them. It was 53 and pouring but we figured "what the heck, we're going to be wet anyways". It is do or die time for wetsuit training so we did it! It was SO COLD but it was good to get it done...another day crossed off the training plan! I have to say thanks to mom (buff granny) for the inspiration she is to me. Way to go!
More Cans!
I recieved more cans the other day, thanks to my mother-in-law who is a big pop drinker! And Donna Lemon saved me all their pop cans! So i wiill cash them in and see how much we get! People have been sooo giving!
Singing in the Rain.........
I can't even shout loud enough to express my joy!!! I was bummed that there was no early morning run because I don't like to run alone but seeing that I missed Tuesdays run I knew I couldn't miss today! So I did the hard part-I thought of a route I wanted to run and the best time (less people seeing me). I made one mistake though-I wore a white shirt in the rain. I started down the hill and over to Denny's and thought I am not going to make it but there's no way I can look myself in the mirror if I didn't do my best. So I remembered I put on my runnin' shoes and I kept running. Got to the bread store and thought maybe I would "walk" a different route than the way I came......turned around and started running and I never stopped. It was incredible! To top it off, it turned out to be between 7-8 miles!! I also learned running in the rain really is incredible. Bring it on!!

Well, my mom can't accuse me of doing a half-a** job!
When I do something, I always do it 100% -- or at least try. I have a little bit of everything -- compartment syndrome with shin splints and a micro-fracture...Dr. Walker said I did a great job of covering all the bases.
SO I am out of running for 2 more weeks, no impact plus an anti-inflammatory med to help with the swelling. Found out it was because I have a pretty severe Vitamin D deficiency that affects my bones meaning it is really easy to get micro-fractures.
ANYWAY, I will be doing a lot of Spin class and anything else I can. Ice. Stretching. Rest of the effected area, etc.
I miss running, but he said if I do this right, I will be back out training in just a couple of weeks. So here is to a couple of weeks of rest so I can get out and pound the pavement with all of you!

I couldn't believe it!
I went dirtbike riding with my family today and you are never going to guess what I found! There deep in the woods...or at least in the mountains... was a PENNY! I was so excited that I found a penny and of all places, in the mountains... I hope this counts as road money since it was in the weeds. Well just thought I'd let you all know that I found us some more money and that I was super excited.... I have the penny fever and my hubby thinks that I am crazy, but at least I know I am not alone with all you ladies.

I love a good run!
I went running yesterday 3.1 miles. I have been struggling coming back it has been hard and wanted to give up many times. Then you have those magical runs where everything feels good and you feel like you can run forever. I had that kind of run yesterday and I needed that! I am excited to get out and do more!
See you at the Truffel Trot tomorrow!!!
See you at the Truffel Trot tomorrow!!!
Can You Say Scrounge??
Don't worry, this is not what I drink before, during or after a run. Stephanie and I ran this morning and picked up 2 pennies. In addition to the two pennies, I couldn't help but snatch up another 10 cents that had been abandoned. Beggars can't be choosers! I took those puppies home and washed them up. Don't they clean up nice?

I found something today I thought I had lost......HOPE!
I have been hoping that my legs were going to get better, but as my legs have gotten worse and more painful, and for almost 2 weeks not being able to run I have been losing that hope. I was starting to face the fact that their is a good chance I won't be running the relay. Today, Dustin Breshears LMT, MMP (pictured below) renewed my hope for getting through this. I build muscle very quickly and I can get bulky if I am not careful, that's the reason I like Group Power is that I can do a moderate weight and high reps. and this keeps my muscles longer. So, running is making my muscles bulk quickly and causing the pain and the compartment syndrome issues. The fix is- a lot of stretching every day and a lot more time warming up before I run. Ice my legs and stretch some more after I run. If I can stand it, my leg muscles would love to have an ice bath. I'm am not so sure I would love an ice bath; however, the more training we do I may find myself in one if i want to keep going. Eventually, these muscle will get use to the running and get lengthened out and not so compact. Now my hope is to get back up to speed soon and running with the rest of you. This pain is no longer allowed to rain on my parade!!! This parade is just getting started. Keep on running ladies!
.....Running is often accompanied by a variety of mysterious, and not so mysterious injuries and pain. Often times medical professionals will tell us, "you need to quit running!" Ya right! Then there are a select few that strive to understand the source of the pain, and our desire to keep on running. They work their magic, and do what they can to keep us on the road. Dustin Breshears, LMT, MMP, is one of those select few. Pictured here is Fawn (aka Booty Girl) getting her legs worked on. Fawn has been suffering from severe lower leg pain that has kept her off the road. Dustin to the rescue! Join us again in a few days, as we feature another one of our unofficial team members. If not for the dedication of these professionals I know for a fact that there are several of us runners that would not be on the road today.
We live in the greatest community
We were out on an early morning run this morning and on our way back to the hospital who should we run into but Rocky, the car wash man. He was waiting on the corner outside his coffee shop and as I came running up he pointed to the sidewalk and said "here's a shiny pennny". He had put a $5 bill on the side walk to donate to Team Shiny Penny Syndrome! So, when you go get your car washed, make sure and tell who ever is working that you are part of the team and to tell Rocky thank you! That was not a donation from the car wash but from him personally.
A big YAHOO to Rocky! We are so lucky to live where we do.

Jenny my K-9 penny
I've decided my dog Jenny has Fluffy Bird Syndrome-the inability to ignore any flying mammal within a 20ft distance and the inability to say excuse me when she cuts me off-
A well needed run!
I had a very good run yesterday after a very long night. I even found a penny on my well used route! Thanks to my Husband who stayed home from work to help with Karter. I got a goo run in and a nap! We had to take Karter in to the E.R. at 12:30am and didn't get home until 4:40. He started coughing like a croupe cough and couldn't stop and wasn't breathing right so they gave him a steriod shot and used a nebulizer and watched him for a few hours! He's good now just tired and has a cold!
Good job on the bottle drive! Sorting all those gross beer cans payed off! Anyone needs any help turning more in let me know I can help!!!

Sure glad that we are not made of sugar!
My mom and I waited for the major wind/rain storm to pass and then hit the road. Then, about 15 minutes into it another down pour. We still had about 15 more minutes to get back to my house. And like my mom said "good thing we aren't made of sugar, otherwise we would have melted" LOL!! I had a blast running in the pouring rain, my mom not so much. You wouldn't believe how many people looked at us like we had lost our minds.
Rainy run with good friends this morning
There were six of us that enjoyed a warm, rainy run down Riverside and in to town this morning. Next to a crisp sunny early morning run, running in a nice warm rain is my favorite!
I love running

Lots of Pennies!
I would like to give a shout out to Tami Forth (I don't know that she follows our blog though?) she gave me a generous donation today at church and apologized for missing the car wash. I also turned in some cans from a previous donation that I had. Fawn, yes, my arms are sore-as are my legs but I'm thinking that was from my Friday workout as they are familiar aches. I was glad to hear I wasn't the only sore one as I truly miss Group Power and thought all you buff ladies that are still going wouldn't be hurting. Good luck with the upcoming week!
You guys are Awesome!
Again, great teamwork at the car wash fundraiser yesterday! Is anyone else sore? I hurt a little from head to toe. Luckily, most of my sunburn is gone; I am still a little warm and itchy on the back of my neck. I am hoping to find a little time to get the car wash pictures on the slide show later today.

No Pain, No Gain?
So I am not sure the old adage is true -- No pain, no gain? Well this pain is NOT gaining me anything but extra poundage on the old body. I will be going to Dr. Walker 5/24 and doing x-training til my body can't take it cause these legs aren't running til I find out what the heck is going on. Keep running ladies and I hope to see you on the road soon!
Have Fun!
Well ladies I am sorry to say that I will not be at the carwash on Saturday! My husband is taking me away for the weekend with NO KIDS!! Yeah!! I wish I was going to be there but think of me when you are collecting some pennies! Hopefully lots of them! Good luck and can't wait to see the pictures! I will miss you! Wish I could be there to scrub cars with you! Go Shiny Pennies!!!!
Need a new Route!
I ran this morning 3.2 miles and it was nice and cool! I hate running down riverside! Its like being on a treadmill for hours! My Riverside nieghbors you know what I am talkin about! LOL
I need to run somewhere else because in the last 4 runs i have only found 1 penny, not so exciting anymore! I want some more Money!!!

Another hot run!
ok so I ran again on Wednesday and it was another hot run, I don't do well in the heat. I like cool runs but I have to do it there is no other time. Thanks to Sarah who watched my kids!!
It had to be fate from the running gods!
So, I went back to the gym and warmed up on a bike and did some stretches and decided to hop on the dreaded treadmill. I don't pace well, so me and a treadmill are a disaster waiting to happen. I started out at a fast walk and decided to bump it up some. Well, that lasted about 30 seconds and I turned it off; I knew I was going to fall off the stupid thing. Irritated and defeated I grabbed my stuff and headed to my truck. I put my stuff inside the truck, tied the key to my shoe, and decided I was going to run. I headed out with no idea where, how long, or how well this run was going to be. As I rounded the corner a couple minutes later, I see another runner, and then I noticed the long pony tail. Could it be.......why yes......it's Party Jo!!! YAY! I asked if I could run with her and a few seconds later we shoved our music in our ears and took off. I don't know how far we went together, maybe a couple of miles and stopped back at my truck and Patti Jo kept on running. It was great to get running, the legs burned and hurt but it felt good. The lungs and heart said YES, and the legs said NO. We will see how the legs feel over the next day or so. Thank you Patti Jo!
Does tough come with a brain too?
My schedule is so screwed up with not running lately that silly me got up to go to Group Power this morning at 5am and wondered why no one was there. Apparently, Friday Group Power isn't until 8:30, and you would think I would know this having gone to it on a regular basis for the last 5 months. So, I headed home, wrote this post, and grabbed my ipod and now I'm headed back to the gym to workout anyway. Have an awesome Friday ladies!!! Hope you had a good giggle out of this, because I certainly did.

~Jim's The Man~
All Phase Electrical Construction has agreed to donate $50 to our fundraising. Thanks for asking Jim!
Questions???
If I work up a sweat cleaning the toilets and scrubbing the showers is it considered cross-training? Haha! Also I found a dime in the washer... should I throw it in the road so I can pick it up and claim it as road money?
Cross Training Cuties
Check out these hot women working hard, cross training. We've got Stacey (below) in Spin, working her buns off and Lee Ann ( top foreground) and Carolyn (top back right) shaking it in Zumba. No in the picture, but also shaking it in Zumba, are Linda, Jan, Stephanie and Jaime. Did you guys know that Lee Ann is going to be a Zumba Instructor? Go Lee Ann
Cashing In! Can you Say Cha Ching??
Thanks to our helpful bottle and can donors, we are off to a good start. Here is a beautiful, yet sweaty, Linda and Stephanie showing off the goods (the cans, not them :0) Can you believe it, even after running this morning they still had enough energy to hold those heavy cans up!
Beat Up Money is the BEST!
Here is a happy Shelli showing off the beat up money found on her morning run. Oh my, what a find, it just makes your whole day! She almost found a full set, all that is missing is a penny.
Random Thoughts......
Okay this morning proved I'm not done running.......I did NOT complete the circle! I found a quarter, nickel, and dime.....no penny! I guess I have to keep getting out there?! It was a hard run. Tuesday's was so good that I just assumed today would be as good-WRONG!!! By the time I got up to McDonalds I thought I was going to need a stretcher but it got easier after that? I managed to get a blister on my arch and my lungs are still questioning my brain but I did it and I'm feeling a little "Rocky" when he reaches the top of the steps. I just don't have the bulging muscles and the beaten brain. However, I do have the sweaty head look. :) Good Luck all you Shiny Penny's out there!!!

Making The Grade!
I just have to brag a little bit. Stephanie, Fawn and I just can't stay out of the paper. I am certain that all of you wanted to know that Fawn and Stephanie made the President's List and I (Jaime) made the Dean's List. Darn Biology!
Its raining pennies and pop cans!!
It seems like no matter where I have gone this week, I have found a penny...even found one in the grass at the park today!! We are a whole 4 pennies richer ladies!!! Also I went to class this morning and Lois, a lady in my class, was walking out and told me the class was cancelled. I started telling her about how I hurried to get ready so I could pick up some bags of cans from Bob...(it was 5 bags full by the way) and make it to class in time... to make a long story short ....Lois said she had 3 bags with her and donated them to the Shiny Pennies fund!! I was so excited! 8 bags full of cans today! Now who is going to turn them in??? Pennies and pop cans are pouring in! Lets keep it up!
Never Eat Rice and Then RUN!
I decided that I was craving some pork fried rice and egg flower soup last night. So, I ate it and realized it was 7:15 pm and I still needed to run and I didn't want to run in the dark. So I hit the road at about 7:45, let's just say not long enough for rice to settle. HAHA. And on top of that our beautiful hot weather that we were having yesterday turned into wind! I swear at times when I was going up hill against the wind, I probably could have been walking as fast as I was "jogging". But, nevertheless I went for a 25 minute run burping Chinese food and "running in place" the whole way. LOL!!!
Whew... it was H-O-T!
Well Brad came home from work yesterday, and I was planning on a run in the evening... but Keirsen had track practice and I didnt want to run in circles... so I opted to run when he got home. It was stinking HOT around 3 pm yesterday!! I did it though.. then Brad went for a run as well... he said he wants to look for pennies too!! At least we both got our runs in... did I mention it was hot?? Haha

I did it!
So since the alarm and I had a miscommunication this morning, I decided I better make up the run tonight. After taking my anatomy midterm I went and ran 3.5 miles... by myself. I used to hate going by myself but I knew I had to do it. It hurt bad but I kept running and finished in just over 35 min. Now I know that I can push myself and get the miles in even by myself!
Not to be outdone!!
I came home from work and on the counter was a note; "for Mom shiny penny" and a pile of pennies. I thought it was Braylie's handwriting so I thanked her for it. She just smiled. I asked who left the pennies and Bryson said he did. So after jokingly scolding Braylie she disappeared and reappeared with a bigger pile of pennies........I don't have a finally tally but I "found" lots of pennies!! Go Spratling children!!
Ok, I guess I have made a mistake because I have been using the original training schedule we got at our meeting, so I better get my buns in gear! Anyway, I seriously wish my dogs would synchronize their bathroom breaks during our runs, because it is kind of annoying! By the way, for some reason my body was not in the running mood this afternoon, can you say JELLO!
Hippie Chick 1/2 Marathon
This weekend was wonderful. I was able to run the Hippie Chick 1/2 marathon in Chamopoeg State Park. This is my second year. It is a beautiful course and recommend it to EVERYONE!! It is an all women race -- you can do the 1/2 or 1/4 marathon. They have cute shirts and yummy treats at the end of the race. I PRd, finished 31 minutes faster than last year, so was pleased (although I missed my goal by a minute and 23 seconds!!!).
But the best thing about the race though was running it with my mom. We didn't run together actually, she told me to go on and do my thing, and she ran with my sister-in-law for part of the race, but finished it on her own. My mom is 59 years old and hasn't ever been a long distance runner. In high school she was a great sprinter, but never one for long distance. She started running in November of last year and has kept up really well. She consistently runs a 10 minute mile for 8 miles or less. This weekend, she ran the 1/2 marathon in 2:19:23. Isn't she amazing. This is what running is all about! Making a difference in our own lives in a way that makes us better people inside and out.
A shout out to my sister-in-law Kim too. She hasn't been running long and finished in 2:35. FANTASTIC!!!
Hello, Shelli?
I can't comment on your post either.
It is a run like you had this morning that makes the hard work, pain, anxiety and all the other things a runner feels ALL WORTH IT!!!!!! Yes?
Good job you little speed demon you.

Good New Ladies!!
Two good things have happened to me this morning. First I went up to the college early this morning and I found a penny. It was a dull, mud covered penny, but being the shiny penny I am, I stopped and picked it up! I, however, did not clean it. Second good news is that I just got the first phone call for cans to be picked up! Four bags of them are being donated to us thanks to Bob (not sure if he wants his full name on here). But thank you Bob! Hopefully more calls will come!
A visit to the Dr.
So I went to the foot Dr. this morning (have been experiencing problems again and decided I should try to get it under conrtol before we head into the thick of training). He talked about some syndrome that I don't understand (imagine that...I'm not a Dr) in my right foot and I ended up with an injection...OUCH. In my left foot I have bursitis and after recieving the injection in the right foot I chickened out and didn't do the left (one good cry was enough for today) So they taped my left foot and put me on medication again and I have to ice in hopes it will get rid of the bursitis. Go back in two weeks to see if that works, if not it will mean an injection in the left foot. Next time I won't take Elsie with me. Nothing like a 4 year old saying "mom, your foots bleeding!" Supposed to leave the tape on for 3 days so I'll be doing my swimming tomorrow with plastic bags taped around my ankle...nice! Fingers crossed that the taping, ice, and medication work! Had a great run this morning, thanks for being there Shelli!
You know you have shiny penny syndrome when you sacrafice your hamstrings to pick up a penny!! Haha
I am sorry I cannot access the internet from home, but I have Brad doing it periodically when he has time or if I make it to the library. I hope all of your running is going well... because mine is hard... but I know there is a penny out there for me! Haha

You ladies are so lucky this blog doesn't have voice activation options because I would be singing at the top of my lungs this morning!! I have bad knees and stress about the training I need to do to get ready for this fun run we're doing so this morning as I set out for a 4 mile run I was concerned about the outcome.....can I make it that far with a run that I'll be happy with, will I be able to walk afterwards....etc. So we started from the hospital out to Mission. By Hal's my breathing sounds horrid. However, as we approached the stop lights at Mission, I was feeling GREAT and more than happy to run back. It was an AWESOME run and I would like to thank Jan for keeping my brain distracted so that my feet could do their thing. I would also like to thank Jaime and Linda for being there without hesitation. I miss all you other ladies and wish there was a time we could all run together. I have come to find that's when we really get to know each other. I wish you all the best of luck with your runs this week and call me if you need a running buddy-I run better with someone beside me!! ;)
Training schedule
We are into week 5 of our 18 week training schedule. We should be running 110 minutes this week. If we stay on track and follow the schedule and work hard we will have a very positive, bonding, confidence building experience. Here's to commitment to ourselves, our team and to success.

Front Page Ladies!
Well ladies, who would have thought that we'd make the front page? Its exciting and hopefully will help us raise some extra money. Thank you again for coming out at 5 am to run for the picture. Also, thanks to Stacey for leaving work to make the picture complete. Well keep up the running!

Ugggg.....the only syndrome I want is the one involving pennies
Well, if you haven't heard I have Compartment Syndrome. This causes me a tremendous amount of lower leg pain. Usually, the pain goes away shortly after a run but this is no longer the case. It hurts all the time; even silly things like getting out of bed, walking a hill with a slight incline, and stairs. I am searching every avenue to correct this problem. I will keep everyone informed, and please, if you come across any information you think might be helpful let me know.

We had a great run this morning. Sarah, Shelli, Stephanie, Jaime, Jan and I ran out Westgate for the first time sense last Fall. It was actually light and we got off of the downtown streets.
How about the rest of you shiny pennies? Let us know how your runs are going. We'd love to hear your stories! And by the way, 2 pennies found this morning on our run. Go Stephanie and Jai :)

2 more penny jars out there!
Put penny jars at Subway and Papa Murphy's today so go visit them:) I have 3 more unspoken for if anyone needs one to place somewhere!
Penny jar requests
Brad sent an email to both managers of Mission Market and Arrowhead requesting partial sponsorhips and also asking if we could place penny jars at their businesses. I will keep you all updated. How big of jars are we using?
Tick Tock...
Well I found a penny yesterday when I was running!! And Brad went and said he didnt find anything... then admitted he didnt even look! Brad has emailed Wildhorse with a question for sponsorship, so hope he hears back from them! He also talked with the Farmers Market people and may have something in motion to get us a frybread stand sdown there a few Fridays. Hope all is well.
Famous Running Quotes
"All runners are not created equal. We do not start with the same genes or have the same time or resources for training. For better or worse, we are all unique. Put things in perspective. Have you ever noticed that faster runners rarely seem satisfied with their performances, while many slower runners wear a perpetual grin on their faces?"

I think this one fits well with yours BG, I hope you agree.
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up.
It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.
(But, unless you're a runner, you won't understand.)

It has been a good penny day!
Today started off well, when I was walking my dog at 4:45 this morning, I found a penny. Then, when I was running, I found another penny and a dime. I then went to Tri Cities, and found yet another penny! By now I am thinking this day just can't get any better, and then on my way to school, I am stopped at the stop light, getting ready to turn, I look out the window, and there sitting in the turn lane next to me is another dime!! Now you know me, and I can not let this dime stay in the road. This will not be the first time I have stopped traffic to rescue money in distress. So I was that dime's night in shining armour, or at least the damsel in the dirty CRV. So today all in all, my take was 23 cents!

1st penny jar placed
So our first little penny jar is out. I stopped by Denny's this afternoon and dropped her off. You'll have to go check her out. Still working on getting more of the little banks. Mom checked with Banner Bank and the girl said she was looking for some. They work perfect if we can find more. Anyway, just thought I would let you know that we are out there!
You guys are great. Kelley's fry bread idea is super, thank you Ruth! Party Jo with her can cashing and raising funds from the internet company. Lee Ann got 3 cases of water donated today. Look out Pendleton, here we come!!!!!!!!!!

Shout out!!!
I want to give a shout out to four AMAZING ladies!
JAIME, STEPHANIE, LINDA, AND JAN!
If is was not for the four of you, I would not be a runner. After months of kind harassing you guys finally got me to the gym for Zumba and then Group Power. Then you prodded more, for me to get out on the road and run. Run! Are you freaking CRAZY? A couple weeks later there I was with my new Nike's doing 3 miles up Southgate. So, here we are four months later, 20 pounds lighter, and training for an insane relay. So here is a big "THANK YOU!" for kindly harassing, supporting, and encouraging me into doing something I have always despised and now would feel lost without it.
Thank you to all member of the SPS for coming together to have fun, run, and do this crazy relay together. I look forward to getting to know you all a little better over the next few of months. I am sure; by the end of the relay, we will all probably know more about each other than we want to.
Keep on running,
~Fawn
