WE DID IT!!! WE DID IT!!!! WE DID IT!!!!!

YEA!!!! WE DID IT!! Have I said that enough?! We did it!!! I didn't find any road money this morning on that 'kill me now run' but today at work I had to walk from the courthouse to DCS and on my way there I noticed a penny in the road so I bent down (in my little sundress) to pick it up and then I noticed another one and another one.....I had picked up 7 pennies in the road before I noticed two guys exchanging a joint and decided that I should maybe move along. However, it's road money. I wasn't in flip flops but I was in slip on sandals........just for you Carolyn! 8)

Mark it off the list ladies!!! Your hardest training run is offically OVER!!!

For the love of running, or rather training some of the SPS group ran a rough 12 miles this morning. The temperture gauge said 71 but it felt like 85 out there. Way to go ladies!!! You are all nothing short of amazing! Thanks for letting me borrow your bike Steph, I enjoyed meeting up with all of you along the way and taking some pictures for our blog. GO SPS!!! Only 2 1/2 weeks to go.

Even though I am unable to run with you guys right now, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for letting me stay involved!

It's almost bedtime-yay!

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am feeling better, it was short-lived but not fun! It is amazing what some food and liquids will do for you. Other than feeling a little tired today and tired legs I am fine. Looking forward to crawling into bed tonight as I am sure I am not the only one-good job everyone!

Nightmares!

Ok I am having bad dreams about the big run tomorrow, last night I showed up ready to run in flip-flops (not sure why) and I was thinking I can't run 12 miles in flip-flops! I wonder what tonight will bring-

What a great supporting community we have.... today I received a donation addressed to Kelley via inter-office mail from my aunt, uncle and family (Dan & Glo Jim) for the racers! They meant to make the Frybread/Indian Taco feed but were unable to make it.... and still sent a donation to me for Team Shiny Penny!

Thanks Dan-o and Glo en em!! Please add them to the list of exceptional donators! They wish you luck and great times!

What a Success!!!

Thank you to everyone who helped out and thank you to everyone who was able to make it out and show support to team Shiny Penny Syndrome.

Thanks Ya'll

I know my husband has already said as much... But I want to let you all know I appreciated everyones help! Thanks Sarah for getting all of the stuff and for your help! I am glad the indian tacos was a success.....

Huge thanks to my Mother-in-law and to my husband who both spent a lot of time getting things ready and also missing his softball games...

The fundraising ended with a bang... Now let's get on with the running!!

Wooo hooooo!!

Thanks for the support....

Thanks to all those that did show up to our Frybread/Indian Taco fundraiser... I was worried that it wasn't going to be a success with all the last minute feedback I was getting minutes before the first bread was served!

I am very thankful for my moms willingness to help out.... she is such a great woman! I was satisfied with the turnout we did receive and the random donations some friends made! If is wasnt for prior engagements some people had... who knows what would have happened... Haha

Thanks to the Shiney Pennys that helped... you may have a future in the frybread business!

Funny to think I actually thought there wasnt enough people to make an impact.... guess the smoke hindered my view!

Words of Wisdom

Well just thought that I would share a few things I learned on my 4.5 mile run tonight... these are mainly for late evening runners and those who love Indian Tacos!
For the evening runners I just have two words " Mosquito Repellent!"
And for those who love Indian Tacos... No matter how good they look or how many times one calls your name DO NOT eat one before a run for two very important reasons:
#1 They do not taste as good coming back up as they did going down... and
#2 Well lets just say it has to do with #2 (enough said)!!
Just thought you ladies would like to hear how my run went... after things settled down or out or something... the last mile and a half wasn't too bad. So just be careful what you eat too close to a run.

What a good fundraiser though! Thanks to all who came to support us and to Ruth for making the AMAZING tacos that I just couldn't resist!

Running Math

For those of you who don't know what running math is, it is the inability to do correct math while running or doing anything related to running. I, Sarah Yoshioka, am FAMOUS for running math and I did it again tonight. We can add another $20 to the total for the fundraiser because I took too much for the food reimbursement. Sorry for the mistake and GREAT job tonight.

A BIG thank you to Ruth, Brad and Kelley for all their hard work. It was fun and lucrative and now ladies, we are in the home stretch!

Thanks again for everything!

Sarah

Indian Tacos and Fry Bread, yum yum!

We are having our last fundraiser before our big race tonight and would like to invite one and all to eat fry bread made by the best fry bread maker in the country, in my opinion. Ruth Spencer has graciously consented to spend the evening making fry bread for us and the shiny pennies will there to build you a delicious Indian taco. We will be at Stillman park from 5:00 to 7:00 this evening so come on down and have dinner.
Indian Tacos are $5 and fry bread is $3.
Thank you for all of your support and we hope to see you there.

Make New Friends, But Keep The Old

I wanted to take a minute to personally welcome Chris Isaacson to our team. With our old friend Fawn stepping down, we look forward to making a new friend in Chris. What a girl to pick up the training at mile 10, there are not a lot of people that would be willing and able to do that. We are grateful to you for keeping us on the road to achieve our goal. Fawn, we love you and hope everything works out for you. Go Shinny Penny Syndrome!

Good Run and Good News

Well good news for me anyways! I was pretty sure I lost a toe nail on our 10 mile run today. They were hurting pretty bad and I was dreading taking off my shoes, but GOOD NEWS... they are all attached! A couple toes are bruised and pretty sore, but all toenails intact. Well good job ladies on that hard 10 miles... and it was uphill BOTH ways! Sarah I am plotting my revenge for picking that route! haha. Just kidding, it was a good training run. Again, GOOD JOB LADIES. Now lets get rested so we can do 12!

Time to rest these legs.........

My legs are not getting any better, truth be told, they have started regressing. My hip issue is pretty much gone but the compartment syndrome and shin splints keep flaring up. After going camping this weekend and taking a few days off from running, I should have had a pretty decent run today with well rested legs. Instead I couldn't stand the pain of running 2 miles and walked almost half. After much thought and conversation with my physical therapist my options are run in excruciating pain or take the time to let my legs heal. My decision is that I am turning my leg of the race over to Sarah's mom who has been graciously training just in case we need her (Thank you). I have thought long and hard over this decision and as much as my heart, soul, and money are invested in this amazing endeavor, my legs will just not cooperate. I will remain as part of the SPS team and help when help is needed, and also remain the treasure. I have loved and enjoyed the training and fundraising I have had with all of you. I hope in time my legs will get better so I can run for fun and the occasional 5k, maybe more as my legs will allow. Keep on running my shiny pennies ~ Fawn

Indian Taco/Fry bread feed

Mark July 13th on your calendar for the best Indian Taco and fry bread in Eastern Oregon! We are having our final fund raiser for our race and Kelley's mother-in-law, Ruth, has kindly offered her skills as, in my opinion, the worlds best frybread maker in the world.
It will be at Skillman park in Pendleton from 5:00-7:00. We will be offering Fry Bread, Tacos, and I have heard rumor you can get a rez dog too!
We want to thank everyone for the tremendous support we have recieved through our two car washes, the bottle drive and hope you can come down and have dinner with us next Tuesday evening.
We are so lucky to live in the great community of Pendleton!
Happy Trails!

Fireworks and Waterworks???

I know this has nothing to do with running...well people were running, but its not about training, but I just had to share it. Last night my family and I were at McKay Park waiting for the fireworks to start. All of a sudden people starting yelling so we looked up thinking the fireworks were starting. Nothing! Then we realized a BIG stream of water was headed straight for us! People were running and screaming and my hubby was yelling " move, go go go!" I don't think I have moved that fast in a long time and I was carrying a kid! Theres my speed work for the week. haha! The sprinklers had come on and cleared the park in no time. Then more screams came but it was the fireworks. The waterworks lasted almost as long as the fireworks. It was a good time though even if we did get a little wet!

If You Loose It, She Will Come!

Ok, I may have not found any shiny pennies this morning, but I did happen to find a digital camera, a cell phone, a Sharpie marker, and a Community Bank pen. Not bad for a morning run. The phone and the camera will be turned in to the Pendleton PD, so you can claim them there. My dream is that some day I will find a random, unidentifiable large some of money. I thought my ship had come in when I stopped to use the bathroom at McKay park (hard to run on a 4th of July packed belly, if you know what I mean), and there in the bathroom stall, is a black case that I am sure is filled with money! Nope, it's a pink camera. Oh well, not this time. I guess will just have to keep trying.

Scared runner = FAST PACE!

So I headed out for a run tonight and decided to cheat (I didn't want to run all the way up the Ford Hill so I cut through their parking lot and headed down the back side). This is not a normal route for me and as I was heading down the road I kept thinking I was hearing noises (I was wearing my headphones so I wasn't quite sure what they were). I got a little freaked out so pulled one head phone out of my ear and kept running (or maybe I should say RUNNING. I wanted to get off that street and back to the main road). I didn't get very far before my breathing was out of control and my insides got hot. At first I thought it was just because I was scared but a quick glance at my watch explained it all. I was running a 6:58! Needless to say, that didn't last long but I'm thinking that being scared on my night leg might on the relay might just bump up my pace a little bit!

We are having a car wash and bottle drive this Saturday from 10:00 to 2:00 so if you have a dirty car you need washed by a very energetic, hard working bunch of runners, come and see us.
We will be at Wilcox Furniture in Pendleton. See you there!
