Heat 1 - PooJo 0

Well, my mom and I ran up the highway hill to Wildhorse and continued on to Arrowhead. It was 2 miles from her house there, 4 miles round trip. We went at 8:00PM last night and it was still really hot. We ran up the hill and then we both stopped and looked at each other like, wow we are already exhausted and it was only like a mile into it. We walked a little bit and then started running again and once we got to Arrowhead instead of turning around to go back, we ran as fast as we could inside to the water fountain. It's pretty amazing how much the heat can bring you down. But, we made it.

A nice 3.5 miles....

It was hot today but still had a great run. Thank you Sarah for watching my kids. Brad also got in 4 miles on Saurday... he said it was hot as well....

I am laughing with you Shelly.... I wish I could have been there for the entertainment! That sounds hilarious!

Runner By Day, Oinker By Night

Well, as most of you are aware, Eclipse is coming out tonight at midnight. Getting up at 4:30 in the morning to run makes it difficult to stay up late. So, Red Bull and candy to the rescue! Missing from my picture is my my lays chips that I usually get, but when I went to Albertson's this morning, I couldn't get down the chip isle. They had it all blocked off. Never fear, there is still Safeway and Walmart. Of course I will also have to get some popcorn at the movies. This is all after our late night rendezvous to Denny's for a pre movie treat! Good thing I don't have to get up and run in the morning, it's going to take a while to come down off my sugar high! Anyone want to sit by me???

HIT AND RUN!!!

AUGH!!! I was wearing a rather bright pink shirt and the morning was well lit so why would I be the target of a hit and run!

So lets, start at the beginning. It was a very pretty morning and not a lot goin' on yet (it was 5:30 a.m.) Jaime and I are running and chatting when WHAM something hits me and lands at my feet. I didn't order anything. This other runner is so enthralled with Jaime that she doesn't notice me (Who happened to be closest to her). So I'm feeling awful and bend down to help her up, dust her off and pull her shirt down and she looks at me in pure shock and never says a word to me! What the golly Miss Molly, you stepped on me as you RAN into me! She crossed the street and looked for battle wounds meanwhile, I'm left with a scuff mark on my shoe and the upper part of my foot is feeling the hit. I would like to thank the 5 running with me that found humor is this experience and let me know it was NOT my fault-that she really DID hit me!

I must say though that even though this hit and run was on feet I was still a little skitterish to drive home. You never know what's lurking behind the next bend and there is always another bend in the road!

Running with my son

Well, my husband and oldest daughter are out of town so no running this morning and it also makes it hard to do any other workouts, but at swimming lessons I ran up and down and up and down and up and down the grassy hill with my son and it payed off!!! I happened upon a lonely quarter laying in the grass. My first "road money" in a LONG time.

A for effort???

What do you have with a penny, stink bug, snake, two cat calls, and two flat tires?......a disappointed runner!!
Saturday I had several clogging performances in Hermiston and Umatilla so I had to forego the friend run but when I got home I decided to run by myself. Braylie decided she would ride her bike next to me. So we headed out towards Mckay Dr.....got almost to Sunridge Middle School and discovered my feet fit nicely in my armpits-at least when a snake is present.....YIKES, I don't do snakes. Moving on.....found a penny! Great, put it in my pocket and keep running.....Braylie asked if she could stop for a drink so I told her to go ahead and I kept running...couple corners later-no Braylie! Mom instinct says "TURN AROUND" so I did. Couple of corners later she's just standing there. She sees me and walks the other way. She had two flat tires and called home but no drivers were home. AUGH!!! So we walked the bike back. She was very sorry and offered to run the motel route with me but by the time we got home I was ready for a shower and cleaner, drier, smell better clothes. Sadly I only got three miles in but I did get a penny and some time with my daughter!

Saturday's 8 mile run

This was the 2nd 8 mile training run for some, for a few this was their first 8 mile run, and I did 6 miles as I am still recovering from leg issues. Good job Pennies & Keep on Running!

I could not get the timer to work on my camera so Jan took the group picture, and Jaime had to get home so she missed the group picture. I will put the rest of the picures in the slideshow.

Shiny Pennies and Water Pennies

So I have not been very successful at finding road money lately, but all was not lost today! No I didn't find anything on the 8 miles... by the way good job Shiny Pennies, especially Caroline and LeeAnn who have never gone that far! Awesome job ladies! Anyways Jaime and I took our kids to the aquatic center today and low and behold I stumbled onto a penny in the water! Jaime didn't believe me and I thought she planted it! But its a penny and I will take it!

Money worthy run, for some

I had a slow but great 5+ mile run today. I appreciate you ladies waiting for me to return. As they say the early bird get the worm. I was not the early bird that found road money today but I did bring my camera to get a picture of the lucky ducks who did find some road money.

Great run with my husband

I was going to bed last night and told my husband I was going to get up to run and he asked if I would forgo a run with my friends and go on a run with him (he is my best friend after all). Absolutely! I got another hour sleep and some one-on-one with him! We ran 5 miles and as an added bonus Rocky donated another $1 to the cause. Looking forward to a run with my friends on Saturday!
p.s. No leg pain for the past few days. I'm keepin' my fingers crossed!!!!!

I LOVE RUNNING TOO!

Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beatiful day!

What a beautiful morning for a run! Blue sky, sunshine, crisp cool air and so peaceful and quiet at 5:15 in the morning. My pace was not what I like it to be but my run was heaven sent. Thanks to my friends that I knew would be waiting for me at Season's! I would not have got out of bed this morning other wise. This was a run that brought peace to my weary spirit.
I LOVE RUNNING!

Sweatin' Buckets!

I think I have set a new record for myself for the most I have ever sweated this morning-yuck! And I think I need a groovy headband so it does not run into my eyes and sting so bad-

Humbled By The Heat

I have always been a pretty steady runner, able to battle the elements that are usually present in the wee hours of the morning. I've run in several inches of snow, rain, wind, heck, there are a few of us that even witnessed, first hand and up close, the meteor that passed over Pendleton a few years ago. But tonight was a different story. One thing that is never present at 5am, is 80 degree heat. Tonight my mom, Stephanie and I set out on a short 3 mile run. I felt pretty good going out, but it didn't take long for the heat to humble me. I am not too proud to say that it literally kicked my butt! I am glad it did it, it taught me I have a long way to go, and a lot of training that needs to be done in order for me to acclimate to the heat. Kudos to those of you who run in the heat on a regular basis, it was hard!

Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures!

So, if you take a real close look at the bottles, you will notice that they are all covered in black "stuff". Today in Forensics class we learned how to take prints of the living and dead, and how to lift prints from objects using the regular and magnetic finger print dusting powder. We were all assigned to bring a few bottles and cans from home to practice on. Well, as I went to leave class, I began noticing everyone tossing their dirty bottles and cans into the garbage! Of course, in my mind I am seeing $$$$$$$$. I can't let this happen, so I turn around and go dig all the dirty bottles and cans out. I came home with 3 grocery shopping bags full of dusty bottles and cans. So, whoever turns these bad boys in had better wear gloves, or your hands will be black!!

Not Bad for a Monday

We had pennies running all over town today, that is awesome! Thanks for going the extra mile with me Steph! and thank you Brian (Steph's husband) for watching all of the kids so we could run.  Thanks for the drive by shout-out Lee Ann, it was a nice ending to a pretty good monday.

Good Monday Run!

So Fawnee and I set out for a 3.5 mile run and ended up running 4.5! She was feeling good so we decided to keep going! It was a nice night for a run and I felt really good! I even ran all 4.5 miles in under 9:30 per mile! and I didn't feel like I was going to die afterward! This running thing does seem to get easier! Good job to all the other pennies who got out there today! We are almost there!

Finishers

Good Job Ladies! Everyone did a fabulous job at the River Run, and what a great way to get a training run done. Being with friends makes even the not so fun times, fun! You all did awesome, keep running!

More Shiny Pennies

Here are some more of our lovely ladies arriving for the 2010 River Run.

Happy Faces

Oh my, what a lovely bunch of ladies smiling so early in the morning. This was a fun way to get a short run in. Everyone did very well! We missed you Sarah, Stacey, and LeeAnn!

Hmmm......Running or Food?

Can you guess our two favorite things to do? Yes, that is right, run and then eat. Several of us have learned our lesson on eating and then running! Take a look at where Jan is sitting! Geez, leave some for the rest of us! :0) Just to echo Sarah's comments, it was great to get together again today. PJ, we missed you, but we ate enough for you too.

Good Company

Hey. Just wanted to thank all of you for a fun get together! It was nice to touch bases and talk turkey. I am SO excited to do this with all of you. Thank for you hard work and dedication to the team. GO SPS!!!

One Eleven

Yesterday was a blessed money day. I found a penny, then a dollar, and then a dime. All were equally beat up, and begging to be picked up. I LOVE it when I find paper money, it makes up for all the runs I didn't find any. Oh ya, I forgot to tell you, when we ran the 8 on Saturday, I didn't find one red cent. However, when Ashtyn and I stopped in Biggs at Pilot on our way to Portland, I found a super shiny penny in the parking lot. I knew then, that it was meant to be.

Rocky! Rocky! Rocky!

It's the eye of the tiger, it's the thrill of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge of our rival.....

Thank you Rocky for all your support and all those "shiny pennies"!
...it sure makes the run more exciting to see a friendly face and helps us come closer to Spokane!
I would like to recommend paying it forward and visiting Rocky at the Court Street Car Wash!

Ok, I did not run the big 8 miles, but I did get my 60min run in. I started out with the thought of running out 30min and running back, but when I got to Main St. I thought, I don't want to run back so I decided to make a loop and head up Main Street hill to 3rd St. Extension. Main St. hill was a little steeper than I had recalled, but I headed up anyway. I did have to walk for a minute though in order to catch my breath before 3rd St. Ext. Made it up to Red Lion and coasted home. It was a good run on a nice sunny evening, my running partner Jenny was still ready to play for awhile when we got home, I was ready to sit! Anyway, one more run down, two months to go-

Logging 8 miles on a beautiful Saturday morning

Six of us met this morning at the courthouse parking lot and ran 8 miles out Adams Hwy. It was a beautiful early morning and a great way to start our Saturday. I was so happy to have Kelley back running with us and she did super. She has been off for the last year due to pregnancy and the birth of their son Karter. She has worked hard to get her running up to speed, so to speak.
Jaime and Stephanie picked up a dog at mile 4 and he tagged a long with them back in to town until they hit Pendleton Market. Kelley and I saw him there in a bit of a jam and coaxed him in with us to our starting point at the courthouse, loaded him up and took him back to the place Jaime and Stephanie found him. Just a little distraction to make our run go by quicker. It really was a good run and I so appreicate the great ladies I run with and their positive attitudes and determination to complete the task at hand.
Hope everyone else had a great running week!
Happy trails!

I am on a ROLL!

Well this afternoon I got a call from Cindy at Mid-Columbia Bus Co. in Hermistion (my hubby's work) and they are donating $100.00 to Shiny Penny Syndrome! I was so excited! Second donation this week! So I am on a roll collecting money, not actually rolling down the road, but who knows Saturday I may be rolling myself back into town! haha! Anyways, thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much to Cindy and Mid Columbia Bus... and to my wonderful hubby, Brian, for asking them to help us out! Let make them proud ladies!

Good run this morning!

Just wanted to tell all you ladies who were out there this morning....GREAT JOB! Shelli, thanks for making me be tough. Sarah, you really are a "touch cookie". It has always been your persistence that has been so impressive. Not letting your injury keep you down, getting out there and doing the research and finding the gear that allows you to keep going. Jaime...way to run a 5 minute mile...you are IMPRESSIVE:) and way to push Stephanie along (and way to hang with her Stephanie)! Mom, you are an inspiration to all who know you and it is because of you that I am on the road. Fawn, good job getting out there and doing what your body will allow! Thanks to all who were out there this morning...youguys are great! Go shiny pennies (although this morning was a dull dime morning:)

Another Donation!

I got an donation from Dr. Simpson tonight! Yea! Thank you Dr. Ken Simpson for helping these Shiny Pennies on their way to Spokane!

Thanks anonymous donar!!

So Lance was heading back to work after his lunch break and called me outside to look at something. There sitting on our front porch was a container full of pennies. I think the person who left it is a sweet old lady that stopped by my house the other day (not sure who she is) to let me know she had a jar of pennies she wanted to give to us. It was a fun surprise on this beautiful sunny day! Thank you!!

It was H-O-T!!

The track at the middle school was hot! Ran 3 miles with some sprints after... my girls played in the nice warm sun... by the way... did I mention it was hot!!?? And those darn middle school kids don't drop any change!! Thanks to Matt Yoshioka for entertaing my kids with a cookie while I ran.

I'm back

I went on my first run in 31 days this morning. It felt great and no pain...yet. I am going to take care of myself and be really careful, but I believe I am back to stay. Thanks for all the well wishes and support along the way!

I Found a Dime!!

I was so bummed when I didn't find any road money this morning, and then, just like a miracle, on my way to do g-ma's meds I see two pop cans pleading to be plucked from the road. So, I told myself on my way home I would pick them up. Well, my short term memory is just that, and I forgot to pick them up, so I had to drive around the block. On my way around the block my OCD kicked in, and I saw two beer cans sitting in someones driveway on their BBQ, I almost stopped to get those too, and then realized, that they are not fair game, what am I thinking. So I drove home with Pepsi and Mtn. Dew by my side, and the beer cans still sitting on their owners BBQ.

New week of running!!!

We have a long week of running this week lots of miles! It will be nice to run with people this weekend if we can get together, running by myself the last two months has been good but not as much fun as being together!!!

A new week and more miles to complete

We have 16 miles or 160 minutes to do this week. ARE YOU READY?
If anyone is interested we are going to do 8 miles on Saturday and it is much more pleasasnt to do that many miles with company. Can we put together a time Saturday to run as a group?
This is when it starts getting fun.

Good news/bad news

I have loose pelvic ligaments on my right-side which is the reason my hip keeps slipping out. It is good to know the reason but the bad news is there isn't an easy fix for it. I will continue to go to physical therapy 3x week to see Brian Chambers. We are working on strengthening the muscles around the hip and pelvic area. We are also working on specific stretches for the compartment syndrome/shin splints/muscle cramps. He is pretty sure that he can get me through the relay as long as I do what he says. I say "Yes sir, what next".

I have no idea what I was doing in that picture!
Just finished a good run, the rain finally stopped-although I was going to have to run in the rain anyway so thankfully there was a break. No money once again, one of these days I will find some! I conquered the Sunridge hill tonight and it actually felt really good, the running is starting to pay off, the last time I ran that hill I remember it being really hard-Jenny my running partner is doing much better about not running in front of me, I think she is catching on-

Truffle Trot

Below are the pictures from the Truffle Trot, or as Greg calls it, the Truffle Shuffle! This event was put on by Rythmic Mode Dance Team, and Round Up Athletic Club, as a fundraiser for the dance team. What a deal, we run 2.5 miles and get a Plateau truffle and some Figi water. It was a fun run, and a great training run. Eleven of the twelve Shiny Pennies were there, we missed you Sarah!! Take care of that leg, and we'll see you in another week.
