Sacrifices made for the team!

Next week is the last week of training. I am ready for the race, how about the rest of you sister shiny pennies? I thought I would take a minute and share with you one of the sacrifices I have made to prepare for our adventure. Actually, it would be 3 sacrifices. If you are wondering why I posted a picture of my feet, look closely at the toes. I managed to kill 3 toe nails in this training and it will be months before I am whole again. Was it worth it? Every time! This is the 3rd time I have sacrificed painted toe nails for a race, two marathons and this relay.
I Shelli ran the flesh off of the bottoms of her feet. Do you have pictures you can share? Anyone else have war stories. Come on, cough them up!

Coin Fairy

I have some pretty great kids, Chase has left coins in the driveway, Bryson finds money while out and about and gives it to me for the team and Kelsi puts money in my bag that sits on the counter with Shiny Penny written on it. The other morning my daughter, Braylie lined our sidewalk so as I would come out for my Tuesday morning run I would find money. When I talked to her about it she said she was hoping to find out where we were running so she could throw it at us but we get up too early for her. I'm thinking it's good it's too early for her because I can see bruises from her "chucking" coin at us! Thanks to my children, You're Awesome!!!

Carolyn Chichester

Hi there! My name is Carolyn ( leg 11) and I wanted to tell a little bit about myself. I have been married for sixteen years, but have been with Dan for almost twenty - holy cow I am getting old! I have two awesome boys ages eleven and nine and have lived in Pendleton for thirteen years. In the last year I have taken on a part-time job as a physical therapy aide and really enjoy being in the working world again, let me rephrase that-the getting paid for work world. I stayed at home with my boys for ten years and was very fortunate to be able to do that, but I am really enjoying the freedom to do some new things again and yet still be there for them.

I have always ran to some extent since I was ten years old, although I was a sprinter so anything over a half mile is long distance to me! I was on the team last year for the Spokane to Sandpoint relay and besides the running part it was great:) Just kidding? We had quite an adventure and I am looking forward to doing it again and hoping to improve on my time, even just by a little-I'll take whatever I can get! Although this year I wised up and am bringing a cot to sleep on because I can't sleep in an upright position in a van or on a rocky yard in fear of being ran over or a cougar or bear eating me during the night, but I guess a cot won't help me with the last two issues, darn it:( Anyway as hard as it is to get out there and train I find it is worth it because nothing gets me in shape like running and I get to indulge in a few more guilt-free calories, or am I the only one who does that? So anyway, thanks to all my teamates for their support and friendship and to my family who always encourages me to do what I enjoy-I wish for safe travels for our endeavor and can't wait to do it all over again-

Go Shiny Pennies!

Only runners get up before roosters!!

So you know we get up too early to run when we beat the rooster! This morning we finished our run and found a little feathery friend hanging out by our cars. I think he was a little hacked off that we didn't stay in bed til he told us it was time to get up because he took off and chased after Stephanie. Pretty funny sight! Who'd have thought??!!
How goes the 30/30 run?

???

Well I have been trying to comment on people's post and it just keeps directing me to log in so I do and then it has me verify and then shoots me back to the log in page. Not sure what's going on so here is my comment to the pictures of the meeting: "I just wish I would have been there to eat the food! Thats the whole point of our races. Cable Bridge Run = Olive Garden!!! S2S Relay = Red Robin! Yummy food! "

It's All About The Food

Ok, you want the truth? Here it is....We only formed this running group as a front so that we could have a reason to get together and eat! It just sounds good if we say that we're a "running" group.

Sam Schram

I thought I'd take a moment to introduce Sam Schram. Sam is a welcome addition to the team. Coming in as an alternate runner for our team I honestly think she has the toughest job out there. It would be difficult to train not knowing for sure if you will be running, and then which leg you could potentially be running. As an alternate runner you have to be prepared to tackle any leg of the race. Up hill, down hill, hot, cold, flat, night, etc. I know I can speak for my fellow runners when I say how impressed we are with her tenacity and quiet strength. She is an example to all of us and we are excited to see what she can do. Today she found her first shiny penny, so she is officially one of the Shiny Penny's!

10 Miler

What a good looking bunch of girls, tough and ready to take on the roads. Today we got together for our 10 mile run, and man what a beautiful morning! The temp was a little cool starting out but by the end it had warmed up pretty good. Today was the first time two of our runners went 10 miles and all I have to say is "you rock girls!!" This run ended week 13 of our 18 week training so we are almost there! :)

A bit o' dirt on Chris

Hello. I am Chris Isaacson. I am excited to run S2S for the second year with SPS. I was a back-up runner last year and was used because Fawn got hurt. My daughter Sarah was on the team so I was happy to take the #4 spot on the team. I have been a runner throughout my life. I ran track at Mac-Hi but was a sprinter. I had been watching Sarah run and was intrigued by the races and started to train for my first 5k in November of 2009 at the age of 58. I am now 60 years old and am using my training for S2S to train for my first marathon - the Top of Utah marathon in September. I am enjoying the challenge and seeing how far I can push myself.
I am the proud mother of 5 children, grandmother of 18 and wife. I love to spend time with my kids and grandkids and to take trips just about anywhere.

Pennies, Nickels, Dimes, Squirrels, It Doesn't Matter!

Today when we ran we picked up more than we bargained for. As we were doing our cool down we came across a severely injured squirrel! :( Not sure what happened to it, but it appeared that its back was broken, and you know, no man gets left behind. I went back and got my dogs kennel from the back of my car so I could capture it and take it home and put it out of its misery. The poor squirrel was having so much difficulty moving that it let me pick it up with very little struggle. I know, I know, I know what the crap am I doing picking up a wild animal, but we just couldn't leave it there! It was injured and bound to die a terribly slow and painful death. So to the little squirrel who is no longer with us on earth, enjoy your hereafter and go collect some nuts pain free!
